Modified Zoo Zone large critter cage suitable for a Syrian ?
I've been offered a ZooZone (Large version) Critter cage cheaply from a neighbor they used it a few times for baby guinea pigs and mum in the winter months but they no longer breed. They knew I'm still thinking about getting my first hammy so i thought this was kind But i'm not sure if it would even be suitable when modified ?
I know the roof bars on this are too wide but i was thinking i could fix finer wire mesh over it ?
This is the exact cage
Its 100 x 51 x 37cm
I am a gerbil owner but I've never had a hamster before so i'm just making sure i get this right
can anyone shed some light on if this would be safe/do able please?
Thanks for looking!

Safe? Do able? It's a hamster heaven A ham would be very happy in one
The size is great and a lot of people here have them, using mesh to cover the bars. If you have a look at the 'Show us your cages' thread there are a few in there

Yep that is a brill hamster cage! A lot of people take the hay rack out and put a little bridge under the water bottle whole so the hamster's can reach the bottle. You will also need to mesh, using zip ties to keep the mesh in place. The gaps between the wire is too big so any hamster who can reach it will escape.
You hamster will be very happy

Re: Modified Zoo Zone large critter cage suitable for a Syrian ?
Yup, as has been said they work really well. They don't need something under the bottle though, syrians are tall enough to reach the bottle anyway when its through the hole in the side of the cage (and tall enough to chew the hole when theres not a bottle there).
When we used them for dwarves we had stuff under the bottle, but we've seen a 3 month old syrian reach the bottle fine without anything there

What do you use to cover the hole, Lougarry?
In my old duna multy, i used to stick cardboard over the hole until Riley discover how to pull it off I then used the 99p wooden chew sticks from p@h what have the little nut on the back of them. It worked really well

Yes. Sometimes. Its quite rare though and those who chew out of zoozones chew out of all cages with a plastic base.
