Default Mini Duna water bottle

Hello everyone, I'm new here! I haven't posted yet because I am yet to get my hamster (I'm pretty sure I've got everything ready now so hopefully it won't be long!)
Anyway, I have a Mini Duna but I have a problem, the water bottle holder is rubbish and it won't stick on so I'm thinking of getting a water bottle holder. Does anyone have any ideas for blocking up the hole where the bottle is supposed to go?

I use a bolt and washers (the pic is of a water bottle hole in a zoozone cage, but the principle is the same). The lid slots between the washers, and the bolt bit can either be on the inside or outside of the cage (though will be used as a climbing post for roof bar chewing if on the inside!)

ETA: I found the suckers on the sippy not so sticky so now use a classic water bottle with sticky-back velcro holding it onto the outside of the cage.

Have you tried wetting the suckers before attatching the bottle holder to the cage?
We've got two and find they work brilliantly.

Alternatively, get a small bolt, a washer (or two) and a nut and put one washer on the bolt, then the bolt through the hole. Then put the second washer on the outside (if required) and add the nut to hold it all in place.

Just be aware that the mini duna is only suitable for dwarf hams I'm afraid. Not an issue unless you want a syrian though

And I was beaten to the bolt and washers idea lol, no worries

Thanks for the tips guys I am planning on getting a young Sirian and upgrading the cage when I have the money which I will do pretty soon! I also have lots of ideas for a nice big playpen that I can use as often as possible until I get a bigger cage.

Why not sell the Mini Duna and add that money to a suitable sized cage for an adult Syrian? Makes more sense to me, it means that you will have extra cash towards the big cage and you won't need to stress the hamster out by changing the cage at an early age (they get big quick!).

That's a good point! Its just that I was so eager to get a hamster that I thought it would make sense to get a smaller cage and upgrade it later on, but if its better for the hamster in the long run to have a bigger cage then its worth the wait

In my opinion it is - the less cage changes the better as it can be very, very stressful. My Syrian has only lived in one cage, I had to save up for a couple of months to get it but it's definately worth it. Saves pennies too I reckon.

Where are you getting your new ham from?

I used a mini Duna for awhile and once I'd licked the little suckers they rarely came off the plastic.

I agree with SS about getting a bigger cage,I did have all my hams in cages that weren't big enough ( I found out what sizes they should have been in from joining this forum and bought them all bigger cages, wish I'd known earlier.Your ham will definately benefit and appreciate a larger cage, the difference in all mine once I'd upgraded them was brill) xx

I use to use the chew sticks from p@h to block the water bottle hole on my old duna multy. It has a washer and nut so you can keep it fixed in place. I think they're still 99p and come in several colours
