I'm thinking of rescuing a Syrian from pets at home :P the more hamsters from that place given a proper cage and some TLC the better!

That`s a wonderful idea Lorna to adopt rather than buying. Welcome by the way. I always rehome my small aniamls from other sources like forums, free ad`s etc...and ensures they have a safe and secure home for the rest of their lives.

I also agree with Serenity about the cage. If you have the space (and it`s important to have the space for a decent sized cage) your choices for a syrian would be The Zoozone 2, I partucularly like this cage because is`t BIG, it`s non-barred so you won`t have an issue with bar chewing unless the syrian can reach the grill at the top! And it already has a bottle hole and smaller holes for the wire to support a common water bottle like the Classic style. Slightly smaller in size but still decent are the Savic Mickey 2XL, The Hamster Heaven and a few of the cages on the Zooplus website like the Barney cage or the HUGE Alexander cage!

If you look at cages around these sizes, you will be on the right track really. Best of luck to you.

Thankyou for all those cage suggestions! I'll definitely have a look round and get the biggest cage that I can fit in my house

I believe the two biggest I mentioned are the Alexander (on Zooplus) and the Zoozone 2 (various online stores and sometimes local shops). The Alexander has narrow bars which should avoid bar chewing, but isn`t guaranteed. The Zoozone is a large perspex tank but you can add levels inside as it`s so spacious! Take your time and we`re here to help if you have any caging questions.
