Default Just a quick question

I would like to make some bins for my hammies because they are a lot roomier and you can also do so much more with them. I have always used fish tanks and was wondering where in the U.S. you can get the wiring for the holes that you cut? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi peanut

I know some people cannibalise old wire cages and use panels of those, I've got narrow wire mesh before just from a diy/hardware store. Here in the UK some narrow mesh is actually marketed for use in making animal cages/hutches/runs etc.

Check out the Hamster Central articles page for some good "how-to's" on making bin cages.

Thanks I will definately try my local hardware store. I just love the idea of being able to make something for my hammies and having fun while doing it. I love them so much.

Some people will use old birdcages or hamster cages for their bins to kind of fancy them up a bit. For example my first bin cage has part of an old hamster frame on the front with the door. But I don’t find having that is important. I went to Sears hardware here in the US and bought some good mesh for a couple bucks a foot. If you are housing dwarfs you’ll want mesh that’s smaller then a inch wide.

You could pretty much try any hardware store for wire mesh, its cheap and easy to cut.

Here are links to the two bin articles.
