Opinions on this cage?
I've just bid on this aquarium/vivarium type cage on ebay as it seems a bit of a bargain and it's only about 25 minutes drive away from where I'm visiting next weekend so seems worth it.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW
It's dimensions are 51cm x 25cm x 33cm (thats approx 20" x 10" x 13"), it seems to have a second level, and a mesh lid. I'm not sure how good the ventilation will be for a hammy with a mesh lid that fine.
Opinions?

I cant see that anything would be wrong with it, I mean I dont know what was previously in it, looks like it may have been a reptile of some sorts, of course it have to be cleaned and what not. Im not sure about the dimensions Im use to thinking of fish tank sizes in how man gallon they are. I wouldnt put a hamster in anything less them 29 gallons, that a good-sized tank. 30"x12"x16" inches approximately
I just like to see allot of nice floor space for a ham, I think generally for a syrian anyway most cages look to small.
could be used as a hospital tank if nothing else.

Large bins
Tesco are selling huge bins with lids for £9.99 is you are desperate for a new enclosure. You may need to find an Extra though. Walmart (ASDA) also do storage containers but not nearly as big. Same as Poundstrechers/In Stores. Homebase have some but they are far more expensive. I have an idea of making one of those three tiered storage container affairs into a large hamster enclosure one day - do you know the things I mean They are like a plastic filing cabinet with pull out bin type drawers?

I've seen plenty of places to pick up bins for conversion (Wilkinsons is cheapest round here), I just don't really want a bin type at the moment. Many reasons. I'm not really desperate for a new enclosure (have several empty at the moment) just spotted a bargain!

Glass enclosures
The only think I would say against glass enclosures is they are heavy even when empty, and really need to be cleaned in the bath which gunks up your pipes if ANY litter gets down the plughole, and the silicon glue used to construct and seal them can be toxic to hamsters.
