Default Water Bottles in Gabber Rex

We've recently purchased a gabber rex for some Russian hammies. Anyone got any ideas how best to fix the water bottle so they can reach? We've taken out the shelf that came with it to provide more room and different things to do.

Any thoughts/pics would be appreciated?

Thanks

You could aways put a log bridge or something underneath where the water bottle goes. I love the shleves in the gabber and always leave it in in for my hamsters - all of them use one end of it as their bedroom and then they could stand on that to reach the bottle.

We use a wood drill bit (large diam) and drill a hole in the base part about 3inches off the floor. We then drill two small holes in the lid and thread some cord elastic through amd slot the bottle though and hold in place with elastic. We did this as we have baby syrians sometimes which need a low bottle. It is exactly the same as we have done in the Bernie cage and there are close up pics here http://www.hamstercentral.com/forum/vie ... php?t=2555

If you don't want to drill you can use a step like a bridge or something but you need to be aware that as they get older they might not be able to manage steps and ladders at some point so for this reason we drill out all our tank type cages for water bottles. As long as you go steady and dont push too hard we have never cracked one. There is also a review of the rex in the cage reviews section so you can see other peoples ideas. Ours love the shelf too so we always leave it in. The wheel is a fine size for dwarfs and our WW uses this wheel no problem. If you have two you can add a silent spinner. I would advise you to scatter feed them and don't have a bowl too.

just use a hamster bottle (not mouse) then wrap a wire round it and insert the ends of the wire into the two small holes provided at the top and bend the ends so i doesn't fall out (or tie/twist the ends together.

edit: oops, i wrote that and then realised you were asking how to LOWER it, not how to fix it... doh
