Mary vs Ruffy Vs Rene?
I'm planning ahead (like a good girl) for the new hamster that i should be getting in the summer. I'm currently scouting out good sized cages, and these are three of my favourates! I like the Ruffy and the Rene better then I do the mary because of the fact the bars are coated, but, I like the colour scheme of the mary better then I do the other two..
Anyway, the Rene's slighty smaller then the Ruffy/Mary (which are the same size) at 72cm x 44cm x 43cm high, but, it's cheaper then both the Ruffy and Mary.. I like barred cages because of the way they allow better ventilation, and they make for easier interaction then tank style cages.
What I wanted to ask, is, out of the three, which would you go for and why?
ETA: There's also the Simba cage to consider (it's 80x50cm), but it's a tank style cage, and doesn't have bars on the top.. Link[/url]

I'd worry about ventilation with the Simba. I don't know the other kinds of cages to comment

I think I'd go for the Ruffy personally, because I've heard such good things about the quality of Savic cages, although I've never owned one. The Rene sounds fine but the bigger the better, so I probably wouldn't go for that. I definately prefer cages with coated bars, but I'm not sure how tarnished uncoated bars would get with a hamster as it's been such a while since I've had one, so if I were you I'd still consider the Mary; I don't know if you're aware but it's on sale at Equine Canine Feline for £44.99, and if you enter the code FANCYRATS at the checkout you get a 10% discount

I was looking at these three cages for Herbert, but having found out he was a bar chewer I felt he would be happier in a tank-style cage so I plumped for the Zoozone 2. :P
But given a choice (and I prefer barred cages too really) I like the Ruffy because it looks such a nice cage - the bars being coated etc, BUT the downside to this cage is that it doesn't have a side door, only a top door, which I would find annoying. There's a review for the Ruffy Here on a mouse forum.
Still, weighing everything up, I would still have gone for the Ruffy I think, as the uncoated bars on the Mary would probably have annoyed me after a while! You can always add a door at the end of the day if you really wanted to. (I'm a big believer in cage modding!)
Mary's do seem more readily available though, you often see them for second-hand on Fancy Rats etc.
I don't know about the Rene, but someone said the access was awful?!
Just my thoughts anyway!

The rene looks like it's got a hamster sized door on the front, and one on either side...
I'd definately go for the Ruffy if it came in different colours, but the blue and yellow does nothing for me! Which is one of the main reasons why I've not looked at the Imac Fantasy cage.
Hmm..

You can get the Mary for 35 pounds from zooplus delivered. I nearly bought one for my syrian (who's in a ZZ1), but bought a Gabber Rex for one of my dwarfies and am now banned from buying cages hahaha. (I only have 6 for 3 hamsters )
I've never heard of the Rene, has anyone got a link?

Ooh have you seen the Rene 82?
EDIT: D'oh, just read the description and despite the name it's apparently only 72cm, like the other one Sorry

I have the Mary - mainly as I got it free off my local Freecycle list (excellent!!!) and I'm so pleased - it's a great size, and just right for my bar climbing fluffmonster!
