Herbert got his bigger cage after all....
Well, after deciding Herbert would have to wait a bit until funds allowed us to invest in a larger version of his Rody Cavia, I put feelers out just in case there were any going cheap.
....then someone offered me a Zoozone 2 free of charge! How could I say no? I just paid the postage to get it here. The kindness of animal-loving people never ceases to amaze me. My sister (who has 2 Robo' hamsters) is going to have the Cavia too, maybe as a playpen or as an extension to her current cage, so 3 hamsters have benefited. John just doesn't want me to keep it in case I fill it tbh though.
I put things in it in roughly the same position and used the same bedding so as not to stress him out too much. He doesn't really seem bothered by the change at all, bless him!
I may try to get some sort of platform fixed up at one end to really make use of the space, but he has lots more room now and it fits in the space we have fine too.
So here's his new cage:

Wow that is one penthouse apartment there. One lucky ham you have there. I am sure he loves all the extra space.

Lol, well I'd love to say he's loving the space and zooming about but we don't see him that often.... In fact, when either of us sees him we stop and sort of shout each other to come and see him / cuddle him / have him out. He's a rather lazy boy.
It does mean though that he has got the room to play in when he's up and around (probably when we're asleep!). He loves his new wheel too, and is fast learning about the joys of fresh foods. In fact, he loves fresh food, especially the little bit of chicken he had. I think that was his favourite!
I might get him a space station thing next, as I think he'd like them, being tube-like. The funniest thing is, that he comes up the tubes and then sits at the top peering out of the tube for what seems like agggeeess before he decides it's 'safe' to amble out. But then he sits and eats his food as if he doesn't have a worry in the world! He's definitely a funny little boy.
..and yes, John and I sit on the top of the stairs watching his every move like some sort of primeval hamster-worshippers...

That's a great set up, lucky little Herbert fell on his feet when he came to live with you and John!
Mine do the tube thing as well, they are funny little creatures.

Thank you for all the nice comments.
Just to prove me wrong, Herbert's been quite active tonight, he's found the water bottle hole too in the Zoozone, (guess what, it's just the right size for hamster treats?!) - so he was stood there poking his nose through begging, lol.
My family say I have this cage-buying-addiction-problem, I love researching cages, finding the best one for the space we have and then setting them up. It's sort of a hobby of mine! :P
At least all my cages are in use though, I know lots of people who have sheds full of unused cages! I'm not quite that bad yet!
