This is making me think......as I preapre to go out and get my weekly supply of Carefresh ( 3 bags). P@H has Carefresh on 3 for 2 at the moment - but it's stil 6.38 a week.
Perhaps I should start mixing in shavings with a view to changing completely - I'm buying them anyway for the piggies.....hmmmmm....

Well I bought a small bag today from my local petshop because I can't get to Wilkos until atleast the weekend...sooo I bought some and mixed them with megazorb, looks strange but Charlie doesn't seem to mind! (only problem is I used the whole bag and now I can't clean TTT out, but the don't need doing for a few more days :P)
Think I'll get some from wilkos then....hmmm...

How's it going, Jane?
I've started mixing shavings with Carefresh and I'm pretty delighted with the results. The hammies get a nice deep bed and it will save me a fortune, especially as our cage count will soon be expanding. I love Carefresh but it just isn't worth how much it costs me every week.

I think it's great - I've been mixed woodshavings with megazorb and it works fine Nice deep bedding and they love burrowing in it

Yes he will (though we'd have given him some of the piggies shavings anyway if that's what he's used to - we've got to get everything spot on for such an important hammy guest )

I use woodshavings for most of my hammies. I have paper flake thingys on part of the rotastakes that the mini hams use. The russians are do rather seem to like having a couple of different floor coverings.
The only syrain that I do not use woodshavings for is alca as she is a long hair. It was ok when she was young byt now that her hair is growing I have found that this type of floor covering is too messy for her as it keeps sticking to her hair.

Originally I used woodshavings for all my animals, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters but when i found out about how it could possibly cause them respiratory problems i decided to change,
Have tried carefresh and think it smells absolutely disgusting lol >_< After a day of that, i moved on again. My rats + hamsters hated it too.
Finally found ecopetbed, which is small recycled cardboard squares in enormous bales. Its price is great and all the animals seem to really like living on it.
