Default Gerald's getting tired of his cage I think :P

I’m sitting on the sofa with my husband, I believe we had just finished up our nightly meditation together, I’m in view of Gerald’s cage and something fuzzy catches my eye. As I peer over I notice a dense looking opaque white spot at the top of his bin cage. I walk over and realize there it a fuzz ball clinging to the top of the wire on the side of his cage. Gerald had climbed the bars and was literally just sitting up there on high. I have no clue how long he was doing that. lol

I took him down and he started to run around, he was full of energy!! I held him for a while before I put him back in his cage, but when I did he started to climb up the bars on the front of the cage. It was so cute but I felt so bad I think he’s starting to get bored of his cage set up. He’s such a big ham, I wonder if I should add another level for him to climb on but will that really make the cage much more exciting?

Poor Gerald, the gerbils have tunes on their cage that goes into a ten gallon. But Gerald probably couldn’t fit through most tubes anyway. It would be nice if somehow I could connect another small bin to his cage somehow..Hrmm any suggestions?

This is my set up for them currently.. it would be hard to add tubes that go down to the bottom level of the stand.. are there any thicker tubes I could buy that would be suitable for a ham his size? Anything good there in the UK?

Default Ferret tubes

You may be able to use Ferret Tubes if they are available near you?

Make sure to join as horizontally as possible if you use tubes with smooth insides so he doesn't have any problems climbing without anything to grip onto.

That’s kind of the problem...

As you can see there isn't a ton of space, and if I were to add another area it would have to go below the stand, and tubes would have to connect vertically at some point, I think ferret tubes would be to wide for him to be able to easily crawl up and down.. Hmmmmmmm Why can't they make tubes for Syrian hamsters :P

Maybe I get some of that PVC pipe or whatever it's called and add some mesh to the side for gripping ..

Maybe you should get some of those zoomer balls and let him have a run about the house for a while each night. You could also make a pen for him so he could run freely with some toys inside to play with. Supervised of course, as these guys ALWAYS want to go 'over there'.

I did buy a playpen for rodents, he likes to run about in there while I clean his cage. The only problem is that he sleeps all day and usually wakes up right when I'm going to bed, and sometimes not untill after I'm in bed, and I don't want to wake him up during the day in fear it might stress him out, plus I figure if he's sleeping it's because he wants to.

I clean Golllum's cage during the day. He doesn't bother to wake up. Even when I take him out of his nest he's still curled up and out like a light in my hand. Kind of like I am in the mornings lol.
