Default Hamster Wheel !

My friend donated a hamster wheel for me to use, but I'm not sure about the size. It's 7.25 inches in diameter and there's about 3 inches in between the part that sticks out from the center of the wheel. It came from a Habitrail Space Station cage. If there is any doubt about it's suitability then I will just buy a new wheel, that's larger, but it would be nice to use this wheel !

Is it silver and blue? With a suction cup to hold it in place? If so, it is the space wheel, which is a suitable size for most hams. As log as it has a solid running surface, and the hams back is not arched while running, it is suitable.

I think people should stay away from any wheel that has spokes, If it does not have a solid running surface then I would say don't use it. And as Luna-tic said, if the hamster's back isn't arched when running it should be fine.

All of my hamsters now have solid wheels without any holes in between the slats because Bear hurt his leg on one with the openings so I stay away from them now.

Default Size of wheel

It should be okay for you to begin with Carefresh - just keep and eye on your little one as he grows and be aware you will probably have to upgrade at some time in the future if you get a Syrian hamster.
