Default Not for hamsters

Got two hyper active gerbils from a rescue yesterday as the deep base means they can dig and dig to their hearts content without spilling any out all over the place.
They are both female, one is a self black and the other is self burmese, paler than the more normal agouti.

If i build another cage one inch right angle will be used for the corners so that there will be no need to join separate panels together using right angle brackets. That is a design flaw but if one did not make mistakes one would never learn.

Oh that is really nice! I just love a custom made cage! I should make an article simply filled with pictures of custom made cages to inspire people! Good work!

Default Gerbil colours

Have discovered one of the gerbils is not self Burmese but a self nutmeg. Doesn't really matter as they are hyperactive little critters compared to the hamsters.
The two dwarfs may be diabetic considering the amount of water they are drinking and the sweet smell from the cage. Am monitoring their diet, removing all the corn, flakes etc as much as I can.

Default Finally the bin cage is in use

Thought you might be interested to see te finished set up. It houses two resued gerbils who seem to love the space, the digging, the chewy cardboard - in fact it's gerbil heaven. The second level is made from a seed tray which slots into the base quite nicely. This is so they can access the food and water without messing up the litter.

And one of the occupants, Gerbillus Maximus (Rita) at the water bottle..

the good thing about gerbils is that they are active at sometime in the 24 hours so they are easily seen unlike Syrian hamsters which only come out from 9PM onwards. The dwarfs are out in the day but not as much as the gerbs.
