Dwarfs and silent spinners
Iv just been looking on youtube at dwarf hamsters and there seems to be a heck of a lot of dwarfs spinning like a washing machine in them. they really dont look suitable for dwarfs, they seem to spin too fast, My syrians have the big silent spinners and have never done that kind of spin, Its quite unpleasant to see a teeny hammy spin round like that, cant do their brains much good!
Anyway what wheels are better suited to dwarfs? are bog standard ones (not on ball bearings) preferable.
Im a dwarf noob so am reasearching prior to getting one
Thanks,

Re: Dwarfs and silent spinners
I love the `Regular` sized silent spinners and find that it`s mostly Roborovski hamsters who spin madly like this because of the speed they run at. I know they tend to be faster spinning than other wheels, but sometimes this is due to the hamster getting used to the speed and control of the wheel. Some never seem to master it!
Once they have spun off a few times, they usually jump back on again and after a while, they control the speed by themselves and don`t fly off or spin so much.

Re: Dwarfs and silent spinners
I have the Medium Silent Spinner (6.5") for my Winter White and you should see him run on it! He'd outrun Usain Bolt but I've never seen him spin off it, even if he's running really fast.

Re: Dwarfs and silent spinners
I think you'll find they honestly enjoy it
Mad as it is, they always keep getting back on and flinging off again!
I have the 6.5" silent spinners for both Treo and Bacardi, i have never seen either of them fling off like Peggy used to.
But they tend to get the hang of it and aren't as hyper as they get older

Re: Dwarfs and silent spinners
Haha, I have a hamster named Bacardi as well!
I always considered Silent Spinners Gods gift to man. I have one for all six of my hammies, and even more as spares hehe. The only one of my hams who spins off his is Moon. But Moon does a lot of silly things. Bacardi is my main runner, and she tears it up on that thing but I've never seen her fall off of it except when startled. Otherwise she slows to a stop. They do learn very quickly...unless its Moon haha! But he's always okay. His spinner is smaller and he fits in it very nicely and if he does fall he doesnt go far.

Re: Dwarfs and silent spinners
I have a Robo and a WW and both have the smallest silent spinners; mine have never run so fast they spin round in them! It might be that people have tried to lubricate them, I know our mice's imitation SS does this after we had to attack it with Vaseline to stop it screeching! >.o I think they're wonderful wheels and have had no trouble with them, but if you're not happy buying the small size you could always get a medium one; I'm sure your hammies would be just as happy and probably wouldn't be able to spin it fast enough to get the 'washing machine' effect!

Re: Dwarfs and silent spinners
Peanut has a Silent Spinner and though in her old age she doesn't go on it so often or so fast, she used to really make it spin but never spun off.
