As far as young stock is concerned I was told that it is because it is sometimes difficult to tell which hamsters are which when they are kept in colonies - though I don't know that many breeders do keep in colonies anymore. No idea why there is no small hamstery class though - perhaps in the past if you had dwarf hamsters you always ended up with more than 12??

i guess that could make sense about the young stock.
i only have 2 normal boys, 1 norm girl and 1 sapphire so it's not confusing to me! if you're a breeder of dwarfs i can see that you'd soon have over 12, but not for non-breeders who just enter their pets for a laugh

i'm not sure yet if i'll be there.

You really should.... We are entering as many as we can as its our first real show (we only entered in the pet class before)
I don't care about winning but apart from being a proud father and wanting to show the kids off, I really want as much feedback as possible. It'll be a blast anyhoo I'll be the bloke with the VERY excited girlfriend

I think I'll be going unless I'm still scared after my first show at Andover.

I thought Bath was too far from London but I just looked it up and its only a 250 mile round trip....better than I expected....and at least the roads will be quiet at stupid o'clock in the morning for getting there in time for benching.
