too cold?
What are the signs of a hamster getting too cold?
my aunt had the air conditioner on, and I was freezing in my room. I checked on miles and she was barely responsive, not wanting to eat.. so I let her on the floor to run and she ran under the couch and was just sitting there in the corner.. so I got her out and noticed her nose and ears are really cold.. so i turned on the heater to my bathroom and have been trying to warm her up. she's now is giving her a bath in her wheel and has been running a little.
would the air conditioner cause this? she was fine a few hours ago before anyone turned it on.

Re: too cold?
I dont really know the signs; but i do know is that if they get too cold, they can go into hibernation - and people sometimes mistake them, thinking their hammy is dead :/
If the air con was on quite alot it could be - seen as you were freezing yourself.
It sounds as if she was cold; but i thought maybe she might of became ill but someone else will give you more help

Re: too cold?
i dunno really...maybe they'd start to come out of their house into the cage less, if they are like frozen lol they might start hibernating :L i dunno if its a good or bad thing really... so long as they have enough food its fine but yeah dont put cages by windows or radiators or whatever just put it in a quiet, warmish room.

Re: too cold?
Sounds like Miles was feeling the cold. If your aunty has the air con on alot, I would suggest giving Miles some more bedding. Don't let her go into hibernation as she will dehydrate and starve to death!

Re: too cold?
If they get cold they will slow down as not to waste vital energy, they will then go into hibernation and although they would do this in the wild with no problems, if they were to hibernate as pets you will be missing out on a few months of their lives, which arent considerably long anyway. Try to keep your hammie warm and out of a room with air conditioning as not only will your hammie try to hibernate they may also become ill.
