Growth around female genitals
Hi,
I’ve recently noticed my 2 year old female Syrian has been acting off. She’s been sleeping more. Finally caught her yesterday to find a lump around her vagina area, that wasn’t there less than a week ago. She seems to be in no pain, and let me examine it easily.
Taking her to the vets this Tuesday, but wanted some ideas on what else it could be. I’m thinking benign cyst from experience, but I’m not sure.

Re: Growth around female genitals
Hi and welcome to HC!
Please let us know what the vet says. I wouldn't want to speculate because only a vet can give you a diagnosis.
The fact that she's sleeping more could be down to the fact that she's an old lady now and maybe slowing down generally.

Re: Growth around female genitals
Thank you for your reply!
I’m hoping it is a small benign growth if some sort. I do work at the vet I’m taking her to, and I know the vet is an exotic specialist and is amazing with small furries so I’m lucky in that aspect!
I’ll keep you all updated with her progress, keep your fingers crossed for me!
And I’m super happy I’ve found this forum that’s great with hamster care, husbandry and health! Super nice to see people who care for hamsters in the correct way

Re: Growth around female genitals
You are lucky to work at an exotic vet's so she'll be in good hands.
I could do with a job like that with seven hamsters and the occasional furry lodger, lol.
Yes, this is a friendly forum and i couldn't do without it.
Hope all goes well with your girl today and let us know the outcome.

Re: Growth around female genitals
Hi everyone!
Vet update: Turns out it was an abscess! My vet lanced it, then found another one under the original one and lanced that too! She survived the gas and procedure, had a quick dental and is currently on Baytril with Hibiscrub bathe twice daily!
She’s doing so well and I’m so happy she’s still with me!
Thank you for your support and I’m happy to report back with good news

Thank you for the update! I'm glad it's something the vet was able to treat. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Re: Growth around female genitals
Thank you so much!
Only issue now is waking her up for her medicine which is stressing her a little bit, but I guess that’s a double edged sword- she has to have her meds!
I’ll keep you all updated with how she heals😁
