Exclamation Urgent hamster health

Hi I'm new here and I just got my female Syrian hamster (Jules) a week and 2 days ago, I had her on my bed during her usual daily handling as I was on video call to my step mother, however she was being her usual active self running around and then she suddenly became very lethargic and tired, I thought she was going to sleep at first then she started jittering a bit, like a bit of a pulse I don't know how to describe it. After a few minutes she started to regain her energy again and stopped jittering/pulsing.

I gave her some of her food and made her drink out of her bottle which she did both perfectly fine and then put her back in her cage. She seems like her normal self now... but I just wanted to know if any of you guys have seen this before in your hamsters and if you know what it could've been.

Anything would be appreciated,
Caity

Hi and welcome to HC!

Hamsters do sometimes have little naps inbetween running around and can twitch and jitter while asleep. I have seen a couple of my hamsters do that but can't say if that's the case with your hamster.

I'm not sure what you mean by "i made her drink out of her bottle" but i wouldn't force a hamster to eat or drink. They eat and drink when they want to.

In fact, this could have been dangerous in case your hamster hadn't been fully alert yet or had had a seizure because of the asphyxiation risk.

Mainthing is that she is back to her normal self. I'd just keep an eye on her as i'm sure you're doing anyway. If it happens again, i'd video it, just in case you need to contact a vet for advice.

It’s not that unusual for a very young ham to do this, they use crazy amounts of energy racing around then suddenly stop for a quick sleep!
I agree about trying to make her drink, if anything like this happens & you’re not sure best to observe your ham for a little while before attempting to help in any way like that.
