Default i can’t tell if my hamster is dying.

hey, so as the title says , i can’t tell if my hamster is dying or not. i initially thought he was, so i’ve placed him in a blanket, and i’ve been with for him for almost 4 hours now. he’s still breathing, twitching, and squeaking every so often. he is cold, and has a strong smell, like pee. he is old, 2 and a half. syrian. i’ve never had a hamster be awake while dying for this long so i looked it up and saw a lot about hibernation, but i’m not really sure? it’s not too cold or hot, so i don’t know why he would be hibernating. besides i’ve had him wrapped in this blanket for a while so he would have warmed up a bit at this point. i don’t know what’s going on and i don’t know what to do for him i can’t get in contact with any of my local vets right now either.

I’d say your doing really good caring for him, cuddling him keeping him warm so he’s not alone. Good job. Prayers for your baby♥️

To me it sounds like he is dying. One of mine became incontinent in the last days of his life and there was a smell of pee around him which couldn't be helped.
The fact that he feels cold to the touch also points towards him being near the end of his life.
All you can do is what you are doing already, keep him warm and comfortable, talk to him quietly so he knows you are there and let nature take its course.

If you think that he is in pain and suffering then i would contact an emergency vet to have him put to sleep. A vet will be on duty, covid or no covid, they still have a duty of care for sick animals.
