Exclamation URGENT !!! Hamster bits not looking right

She’s eating as normal and drinking as normal. No other different behaviour, got her July 2020 so she’s not old. Please look at the picture and help me understand what’s going on, it looks like a spot and quite sore. She doesn’t seem in pain. What should I do??! Sorry it’s not the best photo it was really difficult

It looks like an infected nipple? If you contact the vet they may be able to do a phone consultation with a photo sent first - mine did. Just in case she needs something prescribing.

Should I clean her cage out well to prevent it getting even more infected or will this stress her out

I think it’s definitely on her genitals

Or could I bathe it in salt water with a cotton pad or get her to go in a shallow dish

Bathing it with salt water won’t do any harm but make sure you don’t get her too wet. Just dab it with a slightly wet cotton bud or corner of a soft cloth. I wouldn’t clean her cage. It might need antibiotics though if it’s an abscess so best to contact the vet. The infection could be inside and coming out and females can get pyometra.

Okay thank you, I’ve done like a small wee check in her cage which she doesn’t like me doing that but I didn’t want it getting more infected, I’ll do the salt water with a cotton bud. And I’ll get hold of vets in the morning

Ask them if you can send a photo and have a phone or video consultation. I would contact an exotic vet - they know more about hamster particular illnesses.

I managed to send a photo to the exotic vets but they want to see her in person to work out if it’s discharge which I’m pretty sure it’s a spot but at least if they see it in person they will tell.
