Twinkle may have a lump
Ok, I wasn't going to say anything until Twinkle had been to the vets, he is booked in for tomorrow, but I feel like I am going slightly mad! At the weekend I noticed what I thought was a lump top of his front left leg, above where the shoulder blade type place would be and below his ear.
I had two thoughts, food stuck in his pouch - so i have massaged it - not changed.no smells from his mouth. Or, a cyst?
I have spent so log prodding and poking poor Mr Twinkle, he is so tolerant.
I do think there is a difference from the left side to the right side.
He is so fluffy it is hard to see, but I feel and it looks like it moves, it's not part of a hamsters anatomy is it and I have just never noticed?
I feel like I am going to look so stupid if it is part of his body.

Re: Twinkle may have a lump
I wouldn't worry one bit about looking stupid if it is part of a hamster's anatomy.
Better to get it checked out for your own peace of mind.
Please let us know what it is and keeping everything crossed that it is nothing or something harmless.

Re: Twinkle may have a lump
I’m sorry to hear this Luna, it can be so worrying when you’re really unsure about something but don’t worry, you won’t look stupid when you go to the vet if it isn’t anything to worry about, just a good owner taking every precaution to ensure your ham is & stays healthy! I hope it does turn out to be nothing to worry about or at least nothing serious.

Sorry to hear this Luna. I know what you mean - you think you must be imagining things. It does sound like he has a lump - good to get it checked as they can get bigger.

Re: Twinkle may have a lump
I wasn't going mad, Twinkle does have a lump, it is movable above the top of his leg, maybe fibrous. It took the vet some finding too as we were talking remotely (due to covid restrictions) and I couldn't show them exactly what I was talking about and my friend took him to the vets as I am housebound.
So proud of Twinkle as apparently he just let them stick whatever they needed to in his mouth to check his pouches, with no anaesthesia, as he is such a good boy. They were absolutely fine and clear,
Because he is so well in every other way ie. energetic, eating well, weight stable, no pain etc, we are not going to investigate with surgery, just keep an eye on it for now, which I am very happy about.
We are only guessing but me and the vet wondered if it was caused by his accident as I think it was that side that hit the door.
Anyway, such a relief I got my little guy home.

Re: Twinkle may have a lump
First of all i'm sorry that you weren't going mad and that there really is a lump.
Saying that, it is a good outcome and i'm very happy to hear that the vet thinks it may be fibrous.
Being a human and not a hamster it may not be a good comparison but i did have a movable lump on the top of my leg myself a while ago. Had a scan, saw a specialist etc who didn't think it was anything to worry about. As it happened the lump gradually disappeared by itself.

Glad Twinkle is back home and that he was so well behaved at the vet's.
I hope he remains in good health. Bless him.

Re: Twinkle may have a lump
Glad it went well at the vet & it isn’t too serious Luna, hopefully it will heal with time or just not be a problem for Twinkle.

Re: Twinkle may have a lump
What a relief to hear the vet visit went well. I too hope that the lump will heal by itself over time. Twinkle was so well behaved.
I hope your own health improves too Luna.
