Housing after operation
Hi, I’ve just after some advice if possible please.
Ronnie my Campbell dwarf hybrid is going in for an operation tomorrow to have a small tumour next to his scent gland removed. Ronnie Is just over 2 years old and is fit and well. The vets I take him to deal with small furries all the time and she advised it was better to have it removed whilst he’s healthy as they can grow quickly.
He is a very nervous little chap and current lives in a hamster heaven. I do have a ferplast Duna I could put him in afterwards but I don’t want to upset him.
Would it be better to clean his HH a little bit, I don’t tend to do a full clean ever as it usually upsets the tiny ones and maybe take some of the shelving out?
Any help would be appreciated as I’m panicking at the moment.

Re: Housing after operation
Sorry to hear you are panicking, hopefully this will ease you a little bit. In my experience I would move him into the Ferplast Duna just for one night, just because there is nothing he will be able to climb and fall off, (i.e. bars and shelves) They can be a little bit woozy still after an op (although some times you wouldn't know it!).
I also wouldn't give him a wheel, or anything else he can climb up and fall off. Just give him some tunnels and the hide he sleeps in (if he has one), that type of thing.
I know it can be hard to remove a lot of their things from them, but it is just for one night and although they don't know it, it is for their own good.
Wishing your hamster a speedy recovery after his op.
