Prolasped bottom
I think my little Jovi has a prolapsed bottom, or it may even be his testicles. Its a fleshy looking lump around his back end. Its not there all the time and he seems happy within himself. Should I be worroed?

Re: Prolasped bottom
The testicles are quite mobile and can push out in odd spots and look like peanuts under the skin.
If there is a bit of red bowel protruding from his anus though this is a medical emergency as if it is not replaced quickly by a vet before it dries out the hamster will die. It does not sound like this is his problem thankfully.

Re: Prolasped bottom
Thanks souffle. I don't think it is bowel as it is not there all the time, he doesn't seems ill and still being his cheeky self. Its more pink than red, so I guess its just my boy being a boy. Thanks for putting my mind at rest.

Re: Prolasped bottom
I'm getting worried about Jovi. I think it definatly is his bottom, but again, this lump is not there all the time. I've also noticed that he seems to be having trouple going to the loo. Should I take him to a vet, or is this something I can treat at home?

Re: Prolasped bottom
Their testicles pop in and out all the time so that might be what you are seeing! What do you mean by having trouble going to the toilet though?

Re: Prolasped bottom
I dont think its testicles. The lump doesn't have any fur, its totally fleshy. He seems constipated. Sorry it it seems like I am panicing.

Re: Prolasped bottom
there testicles don't have fur they are fleshy. It can be quite surprising as they just suddenly drop some days

Re: Prolasped bottom
It does sound like testicles - I have never heard of a hamster being constipated though! They aren't furry they are pink and kind of pop out every now and again

Re: Prolasped bottom
Try checking inside his house as they will normally do lots of poos in there. Look for fresh ones round the doorway or even in his sand bath if he has one. Also check whether his tummy is bulging. I took Toffee to the vet when I thought he was constipated and she gave him an injection of painkillers and some 'complan' type food. He was hunched over and appeared to be 'straining'.
You could try giving him some probiotic yoghurt to lick off your finger tonight and take him to the vet tomorrow if you're still worried. Better to check it out and set your mind at ease.
