Question Homemade disinfectant??

Is there anything i can use to make a homemade hamster disinfectant for Milos cage?I dont use disinfectant atm - but i want to start using it, but im not sure how much it is, and it would be easier if i had a home made one.
Could i use washing up liquid - but make sure its all washed out of course before i put the stuff back? Just wondering - seen as i have mould inside the cage look at my thread.
"Mould inside cage!?"

I use the special cage cleaning spray.

I read somewhere that chemicals that go cloudy in the water are a massive no-no, but this doesn't always apply - bleach doesn't go cloudy and thats a definite no-no.

Not sure about washing up liquid as it may not kill bacteria thats lurking.

I have once used anti-bacterial kitchen spray to clean the cat litter box out when I was out of everything else. but not sure if thats ok for hams?

if your not using disinfectant that might be why theres mould!
As although your cleaning well the invisible bacteria is still lurking
( i sound like a mr muscle advert or something? )
i use Johnsons Small Animal Disinfectant Spray - Pet Universe
which even has a little hammy on the bottle
which has lasted me for ages and although it makes cleaning out take a bit longer (you have to leave it for 15 minutes afterwards) it makes the cage smell really nice and fresh.
It makes it feel clean.

I use one from Wilksinsons which is only about £1.50 I think and lasts quite a while

Vinegar is a natural disnfectant and can be used to clean cages when diluted in water. Stinks the room out though so I prefer to use Pets at Home's Cage Cleaning Wipes.

I love those wipes! I also use beaphar spray, the blue one with the bunny on the front. Lasts for ages and you don't have to rinse it afterwards.

I use white vinegar on Spuds cage and I don't ever have a smell when its diluted 50/50 with water. Works really well as well - I should maybe start using it everywhere in the house.

I think i might try the vinegar - i found it really, really good when getting off wee marks. I had a 'rip off' cage of a crittertrail - and the wee marks were completley stuck, but i tried vineger - came off like a charm
