Question Spaying and Neutering Hamsters?

I'm a beginner at hamster care and I'm sorry if this question is really dumb. I don't have a hamster yet, by the way. Do I need to spay/neuter a hamster? I'm not sure if it's necessary, and the internet keeps giving me conflicting info, but I want to be prepared If I do.

Thank you for the help!!

No, they don't need spaying or neutering. The only time that would be done is for medical reasons (for example for pyometra or a testicular problem).

No it’s not necessary for hamsters being solitary animals there would be no need & being so tiny they wouldn’t be put through any kind of surgery unless absolutely necessary for health reasons, anaesthetic is very risky for them too.

Routine spay and neuter should not be done in hamsters. As cypher has said, these are incredibly small animals who are quite delicate and as such should only have surgery for genuine medical needs such as pyometra. I don't think I've ever heard of testicular cancer on the forum with males, but that isn't to say it would absolutely never happen - what would be much more likely is a serious fight from pair housing resulting in an injury requiring neutering which is easy enough to avoid by never housing multiple hamsters together!
