Default Ham Solo scabs/sores not healing

Hi. Hope you can help. Our Syrian hamster Ham solo is 18 months old , always been in great health and an adorable friendly hamster. In June this year I changed his bedding to a soft bedding (big mistake) a few days after him being cleaned out he started scratching and was losing hair. The vet thought the bedding could have been infested with mites therefore treated him and gave him a steroid injection , said to repeat this several times. We’re now Into September and Ham solos skin isn’t improving , if anything he’s getting worse. He has big scabs on his back that are quite deep , they have healed over however taking a long time to mend. We thought we were on top of things however just last week new sores appeared on his tummy which got infected. He’s on antibiotics and the vet has prescribed him betafuse (for dogs) the infected wound is healing slowly however the vet doesn’t seem to be getting to the bottom of what is harming ham solo. He continues to eat and drink normally , plays away great, some hair has regrown however if he gets another sore it begins to fall out. The vet took a skin scrape 3 weeks ago , nothing found. They’ve ruled out cushings and tumours. Mange was mentioned. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it, we are trying our best to make him better 🐹💙 ps have seen few people recommend sudocrem , would this be better than betafuse ? I worry this cream is too strong for his wee body
