Paws is gorgeous! The pictures are really useful.

Smokey's scent glands are really prominant and his fur often greasy around them. When I was taming him, he was an extremely nervous little creature so I often gently stroked around there to get his scent on my hands and he was always so much more comforatble with me.

I'm pretty sure that these are scent glands but just wanted to double check that scent glands are baldy? And that's what is meant by "mole"-like?

I've only ever been able to notice scent glands in one of my hamsters, Bender, who was a Black Syrian. The others you wouldn't even know they have them as they haven't shown, haha.

Yes that looks like scent glands. It is the right position over the hips. You can see the fur is damp with scent and they often get bald areas over the glands especially as they mature.

Hi there, I posted a thread however it's taking a while to get approved?! I have included a link of our hammy Woody, he is only young (got him from a pet store on Friday) however his scent glands look very prominent is this natural for such a young hamster? They were damp and the fur was flattened the other day. Also the cage occasionally smells of fish, even immediately after a cage clean. Is the smell from the scent glands? I should point out the hamster is male.

Thanks!

Sorry to bring this thread back up again, I'm just so panicky about Sen getting problems with her lady parts, I managed to get a pic of her and wanted to check if the darkness is just her scent glands?

How terribly unlady-like - sorry Sen!

It isn't her scent glands down there as these are on her hips but it looks like normal increased pigmentation around the genitals as she matures Gillzy. I don't see any sign of discharge or swelling and this is normal in a hamster her colour (she looks like a Golden underneath!)
