Re: Syrian Scent Glands
Thanks for the pictures and explanation and many thanks for paws for modelling, handsome fella Woody has it very extreme when he gets up, I remembered it from a former creme Syrian but its' nice to have "confirmation" of not having to worry

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
Is it abnormal for the scent glands not to show in an (extremely large) adult male Syrian hamster? I believe he is at least a year old.

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
My female 1 year olf hamster has very dark scent glands and when she had irritated skin she was pulling her fur out and itching a lot, so we changed all her bedding and food and toys and the itching has stopped. However, her fur on her scent glands still hasn't fully grown back yet, and it isn't just a tiny little hole like on your photos, they cover the two whole sides of her lower body
I'm worried that something is wrong so please tell me if anything has happened or if it's all fine
Thanks

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
This post make me feel so relieved.
Everyday at a particular time, my hammy will rub herself and I will find the scent glands area very very wet, and the hair get stick together. I thought it's some kind of disease.
Now I know it's safe and normal.
Thankyou !

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
Thanks for showing me! I thought they were scabs when I first saw them, but now I realise they're completely normal.
On another note, in the last picture, your Syrian seems to have tall bumps on the bottoms of his feet. My hamster also has these and I've just been a bit confused about them; are they normal?

Re: Syrian Scent Glands
If you have female hamster a male can smell then they often secrete more scent and have wet looking glands especially when the females are in season
Sarah they are not so obvious in all hamsters and we chose this hamster as he shows them off well! Also because the satin coat is fine you see them more clearly
Pawsy has gone to bridge now but he lived till nearly three and was very healthy all his life.
