Hot weather!
Hottest August day in Uk in 17 years according to the BBC. So just reminding people to look out for overheated hammies or avoid them overheating. Some people put a fan in the room (but not too close to the cage), others put a bag of frozen peas on top of the cage. If you don’t have any ceramic hides (cool place to sit) then putting a refrigerated mug on its side works well (keep alternating two mugs so one is in the fridge all the time). Check water bottles daily.
Any other cooling tips add them in here!

Re: Hot weather!
I put a price of slate in the freezer for30 mins thinking that would be good ... Don't try it, I got stuck to it because it was so cold, the fridge is definitely enough

Re: Hot weather!
Ha ha. Yes a few minutes in the freezer is probably enough. A plant pot or slate is a good idea.

Down to 5 ratties but we all trundling along nicely in my new house I bought..week after lockdown began! I'll do a little update thread for anyone who still remembers me!

Re: Hot weather!
Henry's way of regulating his body temperature in this hot weather is by letting his balls hang out of his front door!
He is such a charmer.

Re: Hot weather!
Ha ha! Photo please. I was imagining the front door of the cage but I guess you mean the door of his house. Yes when they get warm and relaxed they let it all hang out .

No photo. Don't think he would appreciate that. Yes, its the door of his house. He has a ceramic corner toilet in his house which he uses as a food store. He emptied that and layed down in it with the tail end hanging out the door.
