Question Cane and bamboo leaves?

Hi my boyfriend is way too excited about my new hamster I'm getting in a couple days he brought home a little nest that is "biodegradable nest handwoven from cane and bamboo leaves" says suitable for hamsters but I don't trust pet stores as I've seen plenty of stuff advertised as safe when I know it isn't

Does that sound safe for my new hamster?

I know that bamboo is a safe wood and cane is similar so i would consider it safe.
That is so cute that your boyfriend is excited about your new hamster.

I personally am not entirely sure about bamboo leaves. While bamboo itself can be safe to chew as long as it is true bamboo, sometimes one part of a plant can be safe while other parts end up being harmful. I would also check for any unusual odors coming off of the nest - if there are any, I would probably toss it regardless of materials.

I would also make sure any openings are appropriately sized and large enough to allow for a hamster to get through even with full pouches. If the holes aren't big enough for full pouches it shouldn't be kept in the cage however you might get away with it in a playpen or similar setup where there is no food at all in your hamster's pouches or being given.
