Question Sudden Death and reusing wooden toys?

Hi everyone my last hamster passed away in February and it was very sudden.

He was rehomed to me after like 2 homes so I was the third. I don't have the slightest idea what age he was he was active though.

One day he just died suddenly after a couple months. As I said he was rehomed a few times and I don't know his age but I was wondering if it's safe to reuse his wooden toys?

I was going to put them in the oven to reuse them or is that risky as I'm unsure the cause of his death? I'm getting my first hamster since his passing in a couple days and I was just wondering if the wood is safe to be heated and reused or to toss them and buy more.

The thought of tossing them breaks my heart because I spent a lot on them but also I'd rather toss if it doesn't seem safe to protect my future hamsters!

What do you guys think?

Sorry to hear about your hamster. If it was me I would reuse them, especially as it sounds like he was fine and just died suddenly. I stick my wooden stuff in the oven for 20-30 mins at 95c i think it is.

I would toss them. It may cost money to replace wooden toys and such, but it is so much better to avoid risking a hamster becoming ill(or even stressed due to residual scents from previous hamsters which can't always be avoided). This is especially relevant with current events as we need to minimize travel in general!

My hamster passed away and i reused his toys after cleaning them. The only thing i didn't reuse was his water bottle which i chucked out and bought a new one.

I think if it was back in February, which is now about four months ago, and they are sterilised they should be fine. As Luna says baking will do that. I would also suggest leaving them outside in the sun for a day (when we get some sun) - that helps remove any odours.
