Hamster probiotics
Hi everyone!! My 2 year old dwarf hamster recently developed an eye infection and I'm currently treating her with antibiotic eye drops prescribed by the vet.
So I'm wondering what natural probiotics I could give her. I've already tried yogurt but I would like to know what other options I have.

Re: Hamster probiotics
Probiotics are meant for digestive health... I'm not seeing how they would relate to an eye infection? Did your vet recommend them?
I know that antibiotics can cause things to "slow down" for humans but that is when they are taken orally. So I wouldn't think that a drop would require intervention to keep things moving along.
In general I would avoid yogurt with a dwarf, the extra sugar is not recommended as they are more prone to diabetes.
I have a very food driven hamster so I believe that in your situation, I would just reward him with his favorite seed after administering the drops.

Re: Hamster probiotics
I'm guessing you are asking about probiotics because your hamster is on antibiotics?
If it is the form of eye drops I am not sure you would need probiotics as it wouldn't be going through the digestive system????
Anyhow, I use Bene Bac the powder form and use 1/8th of a teaspoon for a syrian hamster.
my guess is you would need to use less for a dwarf. There are measurements on the back of the bottle, so you will need to know how much your hamster weighs.
Hope this helps.
