I need help
A few days ago I got a hamster for the first time, and today I checked her cage and found a piece of bedding that was stained. I don't know if its blood or diarreah. I don't know how to include a picture but I really need help, I think I was able to upload it but im not sure. The piece of bedding is stained in a brown color, and it has a very strong smell to it. Can someone please give me tips on what I can do. Also, yesterday she woke up around 6:30, it's 8:33 and she hasn't waken up.
Thank you

Re: I need help
Hi Paulo. That does look like blood...can you get her to a vet?
Regular vets can help but 'exotic animal' vets are the best as they specialise in tiny creatures like hamsters. They usually don't charge any more than a regular vet.
I think that this case definitely requires a vet. Whether it is blood or diarrhoea, both can be very serious and can get life threatening very quickly.
Best of luck.

Hi, I really need help, I can't take her to a vet; vets that specialize in small mammals in my area don't work during weekends, and I really don't know what to do. Please help. Also, today when I woke her up to check on her, I saw there was some bedding stained with blood and some with diarreah; im VERY worried and I don't know what to do

Re: I need help
Hi, I'm sorry I can't offer advice on what to do right now but since you say your vet isn't open at the weekend, can you contact an emergency vet? It does cost more, but it would mean you don't have to wait the whole weekend before you can get some advice.

Re: I need help
I'm really sorry you're in this situation.
Diarrhoea in hamsters causes serious dehydration so until you can get her to a vet (which needs to be urgently done) you can give her some cucumber to eat. The high water content will help prevent dehydration.
I'm sfraid apart frim that there is not much more I can suggest.
