Exclamation Hamster injured foot from fall

Hello everyone !

Sadly my Syrian hamster Jeffery fell from a tall height, around 0.8m, last night and has injured one of his back feet. Right after the fall it appeared swollen bruised at the joint (purple/red discolouration) and he was limping, avoiding use of the foot. Jeffery is usually very active and I am not sure of his age as he is adopted, but he should be around 1.5 - 2yo.

Last night I removed all platforms and hanging toys from his cage, as well as his wheel, and gave him some extra bedding. He has some Metacam painkiller (not yet expired) from a previous ailment so I have been giving him the same dose prescribed as safe last time.

Since last night (24h) he has been mostly resting. The good news is the discolouration in his leg has almost entirely gone although it is still swollen, and he has been putting a little more weight on the leg when he does move. However, he is much less active than usual and his appetite has decreased as well. I guess this is part of recovery but should I be concerned? And is there anything more I can do for him at this point?

As for taking him to a vet- I have not yet as I think unless something serious is wrong not much more can be done for him other than prescribing painkillers, which we already have. However, I would be able to if his symptoms escalated or there was an indication of something serious.

Attached is a picture of him today, as you can see he is putting some weight on that back foot while he sits

Sorry to hear about your hamster's accident.
I would get professional advice and phone the vet.
If you or one of your human family members would have a fall and sustained an injury which could, potentionally be a fractured limb you would get medical help and hamsters are no different in my opinion.

Get a vet appointment, ask for an emergency appointment as he doesn't look to good.
