Default Shampoo-ing Hamster?

Hi all,

Just a quick question.. Do you guys think it is okay to shampoo a hamster with spray shampoo? it kind of shampoo that you spray and it will dry itself..

as you guys know that I am trying to get Eva and Bella get along, I tried to ask the pet shop if he got way to do it... He said need to clean the cage with mild soap and change the bedding with fresh bedding (to get rid the smell of old hamsters) and shampoo the hamster with spray shampoo.

I haven't do it... Because I am scared that it might hurt them. Do you guys have any advice?

Thanks alot.

I have never heard of it to be honest. Yes clean the cage and all accessories carefully but no not the hamster. If you have tried the hamsters together and they are not getting along then just keep them all in separate individual cages.

They sell it here (in Malaysia).. they said its a shampoo and its safe for hamsters...

I cleaned the cage and put the new hamster 1st and spray abit of the spray shampoo on the bedding and the hamsters (they seems okay, not panic or scared)... they are sleeping now, haven't notice any fight scene.. I hope they can get along.

To be honest with you, as has been advised in this thread several times now, I think you should keep your hamsters in separate cages. This seems the best option for their safety. Not to mention stress levels. If they've already fought, it may be that they will just not get along and will probably fight again. If one is bullying the other, it's not fair.
I think you should really take the advice of some very experienced hamster owners on here rather than the owner of a pet shop. My experience is that some will tell you anything to get you to buy an animal or to stop you coming back to complain. And some will sell you anything if it means more money for them.
I can't understand why you keep asking questions on here and then go and do the opposite of what you've been advised.
I'm sorry, but that's how it seems to me. Think about those little hamsters who you keep moving around and stressing.

i've never heard of spray shampoo for hamsters in the UK but then other countries products are different.
them sleeping together is a very good sign and hamsters that don't like each other wouldn't do this, i think you have took all advice well

I have heard of people managing to bond hamsters using vanilla essence initially to mask the scents then as it wears of the two scents will mix.
I wouldn't risk the shampoo as it may contain chemicals that could upset their tummies. Glad to hear they seem to be settling but do keep a close eye on them.
