Exclamation Infected Scent Gland

Hi.
So my dwarf hamster has another scent glad infection 😢
I have cared vets to get a repeat prescription of his last antibiotics but they won't give them unless they've seen him.
I can't leave the house at all, due to being in the vulnerable category during Covid19. Is there any at all I can do to help it? Bathe it with something, any cream?
I feel absolutely awful that I can't do anything 😭
Any advice would be amazing. Thank you!

Ahh TinyFriends, I am so sorry you are in this position. It is awful. Do you perhaps have somebody who could take him to the vet for you? A friend or family member perhaps? That would be first choice. If your vets refuse to give a repeat prescription, maybe try contacting another vet practice and explain your situstion and see if they might be able to help either by prescribing medicing telephonically or maybe even coming round to your house?

I really am not completely sure what you can give him or do for him and don't want to suggest something that may be harmful but I would think that dabbing the scent gland with some warmish salty water may help?

I reallly would suggest veterinary care as a first choice.

Wishing your little one a speedy recovery.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble getting help for your ham, there really isn't anything you can do for an infection, you could bathe it with saline but I'm not sure that would help much & I wouldn't recommend anything else.
I'd agree that the best you can do is either contact another vet & explain the situation most vets are doing all they can to make it as easy as possible to help pets so you may find someone more helpful or getting someone else to take him if possible.
Good luck with him, I hope you can get some help soon.

I don't know where you are from but in Romania there are some clinics that provide consultation online via skype maybe there is a clinic that could do that for you.

I don't know if you are on facebook, but near me groups have been set up where people are helping each other out. I am sure there must be someone out there that would be willing to help by taking your hamster to the vets. Also, many vets are doing online video calls, maybe find a vet that would be willing to do that. Goodluck in finding help, do keep us posted.
