Circling hamster with a bulging eye
I have some concerns about my hamster, Bonnie. She seems to be more clumsy than usual as in she's bumping into things and clambering over toys. She also seems to be circling quite a bit for a few seconds and then she stops for a couple of seconds and starts spinning again. I have also noticed that one of her eyes is slightly bulged.
My first thought was that she was blind in one eye but when I looked it up, a few different websites suggested an inner ear infection.
I am honestly a bit lost as to what to do because Ireland is currently on a two week lockdown which means I can't get her to the vet.
I'm not sure what the problem actually is as she doesn't have any other symptoms that could point to a diagnosis.
Her appetite is normal and she is still drinking normally. I haven't made any changes to her diet, lifestyle or routine recently and she hasn't shown any problems before now.
Is there any changes I should make to her enclosure to stop her bumping intp things? Is there any home remedies I can use for her? Is she in pain?
I have so many questions but I feel so useless not being able to help her.
I would really appreciate any help anyone could offer.
Thank you

Re: Circling hamster with a bulging eye
Have you tried ringing your vet and seeing what procedures they have set up at the moment for situations like this. For example, if it is classed as an emergency some vets are seeing animals under strict protocols. I.e. you may have to wait outside and have limited contact but your hamster would get looked at. If you are having to isolate and stay at home, again some vets are coming to pick up the animal. Whether they are charging for this I do not know. Some are even doing video calls. So, if I was you I would be ringing my vet for their advice.
As for your hamsters cage set up, if she is being clumsy, I would move everything all on to one level so she can't fall.

Re: Circling hamster with a bulging eye
Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it.
I rang the vets and told them about her behaviour and her eye and they said they couldn't be fully sure without checking her over but it's possible that it is just an ear infection and not anything more serious, but they can't rule anything out without seeing her.
During the quarantine they have social distancing measures in place and reduced hours but they still have emergency slots open and some consults. I have an appointment for her tomorrow as they have no consults before then so hopefully they'll be able to figure out what's wrong with her and give her something for it.
