Default Red under Syrian Hamsters nose

I have attached a photo of my hamsters nose. It looks swollen, red and sore. She did have a cut on the left side of her nose which has since scabbed and fallen off. You can see a small bit of it in the photo where the darker spot is. She has a burrow box which had woodshavings in and could have cut it on that. But last night I noticed she was digging around a lot in her toilet which has Tiny Friends Farm Bathing Sand in it and she had a lot of dust from this over her nose. Then this morning I noticed the redness under her nose. She's hasn't lost her appetite though. And I use woodshavings to cover the floor of the cage and she has paperwool as bedding.

Have you checked inside that wooden box? We has one who was chewing inside and the walls were covered in blood due to the wood damaging her face. I don't really like that wooden stuff now. Gave her cardboard and it went. Remove the sand for now as well just in case and see if it heals up.

Also check for nails. Some of those bark wood items use nails that protrude when the wood is chewed eg

There's no blood inside the wooden house. I've removed the wood shavings and used carefresh instead. But Ithink I've figured it out. She's chewing two of the edges of the plastic tray part of the cage and feels rough. I've hopefully blocked these edges off and provided more wooden chews. Hopefully this works. Any advice for stopping her chew the edges of the cage? And what could I use for the toilet instead of the bathing sand?

Ah thank you, there's no nails.

Child safe play sand, you will need to make sure it’s perfectly dry, I use a bag I bought from Smyths Toys (UK).
It’s a bit of a can of worms asking for sand advice, you will be told to clean it and bake it, I don’t (Personel choice after being aware of the facts).

Have you had issues with Tiny Friends Farm Bathing Sand as well? Or is child play sand just your preference.
