Question Teeth growing apart, and is there something wrong with his scent glands?

So I've noticed that the Boy's teeth are looking a little long and are starting to grow apart (can't get a pic as he's asleep but when he wakes up I'll put one). He doesn't use any of the chews I've given him and I've tried loads. Any tips in getting him to chew his chew?

Also, he keeps scratching his sides and rubbing them against the sides of his cage. Is he just scent marking?

Thank you :)

What chews do you have for him? Many things sold as hamster chews have no appeal for them but most will enjoy chewing on whimzees if you haven't tried those give them a go, the toothbrush ones are probably best.
It does sound as though there may be an underlying problem with the teeth, they could be misaligned & so not wearing down properly, some are born with a problem but it can also be caused by things like bar chewing, injuries from falls etc.
Usually just eating a normal diet is enough to keep them trimmed down & they don't need chews necessarily, if he has been eating a normal diet & still has this problem you may have to take him to the vet, if they do continue to get overgrown they can do a lot of damage very quickly so keep a close eye on. this.

Rubbing against the cage does sound as though it's most likely scent marking.

I managed to get a pic of his teeth, are they too long? I've ordered whimzees from amazon, but if they are too long I can't go to the vet as they are only taking emergencies due to the lockdown here in the UK, and they were considering cancelling my rabbit's appointment for her yearly jabs and her teeth needing trimming (her teeth don't line up so they don't wear down properly and need to get trimmed pretty much every month)

Her teeth look fine to me. The bottom teeth are surprisingly long in hamsters. They are slightly mobile in the jaw and sometimes look a little bit open but those are not much. Just keep an eye that there is no drooling and that she is eating well.

I don't think you need to worry about anything. Just a side note, if there was something wrong with your hamsters teeth it could be classed as an emergency for example if it caused your hamster not to be able to eat. But I am sure your vet would be able to advise either way.

If you are still looking for chews, I would recommend making your own. Find some wood that hamsters can chew on (my hamster really likes pear wood), take the bark off, and bake them at 250 degrees F for 2-3 hours to sanitize them.
