Default Re: Mimi is dying of old age... Should I intervene?

I would take it day by day. With Charlie he also was like this for a long time but didn't die and in the end I did take him to the vets as he had a prolapse and I thought he was suffering.

Newt also took to his bed but would drag himself out to get food. However he got so very swollen and his ears were down all the time so I decided to take him to the vet. I really was concerned he would burst and the vet said it was the right thing as he was very full of fluid.

If you have the right vet then the procedure is kind. The vet I use will only ever do gas first - so they just go to sleep and are anaesthetised and know nothing about the injection. It means you can't go in with them, due to the gas, but in our recent cases they stayed in the little snooze cube I took them in and that was taken with them in it so it was fairly comfortable. Any house etc just is put in the gas tank so they are not stressed or handled etc.

Sorry if that is a bit awful to read. Is Mimi coming out at all? If not then it is probably best to leave her - but if it goes on a few days I would think about whether to help her on her way as a kindness. If you don't have a regular vet, ring round them. I will only ever use a vet that always uses gas anaesthetic first.
