Exclamation Hamster breathing from stomach area

Hey there! My syrian hamster, Honey is about 2 years old just about I think.

She is a friendly, active, and cuddly girl!

Recently I notice she breaths like this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CPq...w?usp=drivesdk

Is this normal??
Please keep in mind her coat is a bit greasy like that because I hold her in my hand so often Haha... she is always with me. But when shes not it's a nice and fluffy shiny coat. It's my sweaty gross hands that make her coat look like that .... hahaha...

But anyway
Shes eating and drinking normally from what I tell, she has always been a very cuddly and sleepy hamster, but she has her bouts of activeness too. She will sleep on me for hours at a time and it's always been this way all her life.

But what I've been noticing is her breathing from her abdomen area more rapidly than I remember her being. And for the past half a year shes had a bit of a clicky breathing from time to time. But it's never stayed long and went back to normal and I didnt think much of it. Could this be related?

Other than that I really havent noticed much difference in her behavior.

Do you think this is cause for alarm? Should I spend the money to take her to the vet.

Is it just when she is hot or all the time, belly breathing or diaphramatic breathing same thing is a really efficient way to get air into the lungs, human babies do it all the time and then children sleeping will, so it can be normal, I wonder if it is more pronounced just because she is a bit sweaty and wet from your hands?? I’m sure others with more experience of seeing respiratory distress can give more insight.

Hello. I think this is age related unfortunately. Our last Syrian Newt started doing this in his last few months. At two she is a very great age. Maybe getting a bit tired easily. The cause could be a number of things but at her age, her organs will gradually start not working as well as they did before. I found Newt was quite happy with occasional exertion then stopping for a rest.

Does she seem ok in herself otherwise? Eating and drinking. She is an old lady so just keep an eye on her and pamper her

All sorts of things start failing as they get old and it can come down to just seeing what the quality of life is. It could be her heart or it could be internal fluid etc pressing on something. Just be prepared for the fact that she is in her twilight time now. If she shows any other symptoms or seems in any kind of discomfort or distress then that will be the time to consider whether she is suffering and needs to be helped on her way. Sometimes they go peacefully in their nest, but sometimes that isn't possible and we need to help them if they are suffering.

There isn't much a vet can do so I would just let her live out her life comfortably for as long as possible.

She doesn’t look well to me. Maybe age related. Why does her hair look wet ?

Hiya I am new here. My 19 month old syrian hamster has got the same breathing problem but with sneezing, coughing or sniffling noises. He's been to the vet and got metacalm, antibiotics but no change. No discharge from nose or eyes. He sleeps more and cleans himself. He loves any food put in his cage and stores in his cheek and carries to anothe corner. But breathing is like hes got a cold. Any ideas?
