Unhappy Hamster is dying.

Hello.

Recently my hamster has been very imbalanced, lethlargic, not eating or drinking. All of the signs that my little hammie is indeed taking her final breathes. This afternoon I came home and my hammie is only taking one breathe every couple seconds. I covered her in a sock giving her head room to breathe. She's very chilled and doesn't react to my touch or to my holding her. She simply is just laying there but still breathing. Is there anything else I can do to make her final moments more comfortable?

You are doing all you can by keeping her warm and comfortable. Talk to her softly and let her know you are there while nature runs its course.

Talking softly to them definitely does calm them...they know more than we think so tell her you love her and that it's ok for her to let go. Rest In Peace little one.

Hammie is officially deceased. I'm going to try to bury her. Should I clean her cage completely if I ever wanted to get a new hamster?

I am sorry to hear about hammie. You did all you could for her and gave her comfort at the end. I hope you do get a new ham in time. If you do, you will need to thoroughly clean and disinfect the cage and toys. Play well at the bridge little hammie x

So sorry for your loss, play happily over the rainbow bridge little one. I found clearing out the cage and disinfecting all the stuff helped me with closure and didn't keep reminding me of my little one, if that makes sense... but I guess it's different for everyone.

I’m sorry for your loss. I would definitely clean the cage thoroughly before putting it away.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure you gave them a good life. I would do deep cleaning and desinfecting.
