Re: Diabetic hamster care
This morning i got the Dremel out and made Percy a plastic table to replace the bamboo one. I then took all the wooden items out and replaced with washable plastic and disposable cardboard to avoid bacteria from mould on peed on wood. It is surprising how very quickly mould forms on wood from a diabetic hamster's sugary pee and i'm so glad that you experienced people here have made me aware of this.
Percy checked out everything, doing his bulldozer thing but wasn't so frantic and upset. The layout is similar and he can still burrow and run through things and come to the window for a mealworm.

I learnt very quickly after I had to throw a load of wooden toys out with my first diabetics.
I know that some people aren't too keen on using plastic but easily washable is the most imprtant thing with diabetics.
My diabetics cages have usually had a mix of cardboard, plastic and ceramic items.

I'm glad he wasn't too upset by the changes.
