Blood on hamster bedding
I've been on vacation for the past few days and asked my roommate to check in on my hamster while I was gone. When I came back last night, I noticed what looked like blood on a few pieces of my hamster's bedding. I picked her up and looked her over. I couldn't see any wounds/injuries or blood on her fur. I watched her last night and she was acting normal. I googled it and found UTIs are common in female hamsters... I'm not sure if that is it or not. The few pieces of bedding I found with blood on it were close to her hideaway, not her bathroom corner. I'm concerned something is wrong, but as of tonight, I don't see any more blood. It's hard for me to know what happened since I was gone. It's also possible my roommate spilled food or wine in the cage... I was thinking my hamster could have possibly also cut her mouth on some seeds I gave her. I'm really not sure.
Any advice would be helpful, thanks!

Re: Blood on hamster bedding
I think I would monitor her a bit. It doesn't look entirely like blood to me. They can also pull a nail or bite their tongue so could be something like that. Take anything stained out the cage and have a clean start so you can see if it happens again and keep checking her for signs of swelling or acting out of sorts and see a vet if that does happen.

Re: Blood on hamster bedding
Thank you for replying. The bleeding was continuing to happen and seemed to be coming from her mouth when she chewed on treat sticks. I took her to the vet and they trimmed her teeth. The vet said her teeth were too long and arched. The vet also said she has cataracts in both eyes and appears to be 2 or 3 years old. The breeder I got her from told me she was only a few months old. This is my first hamster, so I’m pretty disheartened to learn this. I thought I would have my hamster for at least another year or two.
