Default Please help me!!!! Please my hamster has a huge lump

Hi all. Can anyone please help me? My beautiful 4 month old syrian hamster has just come out of her bed with a massive lump on her chest. Under her chin, between her 2 front legs. I'm so so worried about her. She has not been eating as normal lately and doesnt wanna use her wheel much. I had her out dor cuddles yesterday and she was absolutely fine. There was no lump at all. I have only had her 2 months. Does anyone know what it may be? I'm so sad. Please can anyone help? Has anyone experienced anything similar?

You need to see a vet with her. Because she is young and it has come up so quickly it is likely this is something that can be treated. It is likely an abscess in the pouch or possibly in the tooth root or even a cyst. It is likely painful and would need drained and flushed and then antibiotics but she should recover well. Offer some soft foods like babyfood and porridge so she gets some food in her. Does she chew the water bottle spout at all? It could be a pouch full of water! If she does chew then take the bottle off and replace with a small pottery bowl for now

Thank you very much for replying. She does chew from the water bottle spout. I will go and get her a bowl today. Any ideas on what babyfood would be suitable? I have called the vets this morning to be told the earliest they can see Sydney is next Monday :'( I hate seeing her like this. She is the most lovely little girl and we have become very close in such a short time. Just want her better

Next Monday is much too long! Did you say it was urgent and she seemed in pain? Maybe try another vet?
We use either the little jars of Heinz or the little pouches. Something like chicken and pasta or chicken vegetables type. Just don't get one with citrus fruits or onion / garlic or leeks in it.

I would ring another vet or two and see if you can get an appointment tomorrow. Most vets have an emergency service. Also see if there is an exotic vet near you (google exotic vet - your area). They know a lot more about hamsters - many vets don’t know much about hamster medical conditions.

Cow and gate “chicken Sunday lunch” was one of our hanster’s Favourites - the 4 months one - no onion, tomato etc. Also the hoop organic sweet squash and chicken. Both are safe and usually available in supermarkets.
