The vet is too busy, so the receptionist won't let me speak to her. She has a three day waiting list and even if I go there on the appointed day, I still have to wait for about four hours or so before I can even talk to her and I can't take anymore time off work. It's a real nightmare trying to see the vet but the vet herself is an experienced and sweet lady.

Now that I look back at photos (can't be sure, because it's hard to see from photos and also, the vet hadn't shaved her yet), it does seem like her wounds were black/brownish/darkish. Now it seems light pink. I really hope I'm seeing it correctly and that it's a good sign.

Yay, I'm glad you knew what I meant lol. I'm kinda worried about not cleaning the wound, but really hoping it will still be cleaned off (substrate/ licking).

She was very whiffy before I got her to the vet. The smell ceased for two days or so after the vet visit (maybe because the vet cleaned her properly), but it slowly crept back after that.

Maybe her cage is whiffy (residue of her whiffy wound?) but I didn't want to clean her cage so frequently and stress her out. It's only been a week since she had a new clean cage, and usually, a clean cage still smells fresh and great even after a month. Or maybe she is scenting everything because she is going through a stressful time.

I should have done a veterinary course in college, then I won't be in such a dilemma now. We totally need more exotic vets in this world.

I would keep with the oral medication, which is antibiotic isn't it? And not try and clean the wound. There has to be a balance. The regular antibiotic is important to kill any infection so cleaning the wound is perhaps less important and let her clean herself.

It is so hard with robos. We have to balance the stress with the treatment. Main thing is she keeps taking the antibiotics.

Yes, she is very good about taking her oral medicine and has not missed a single drop. Funny how I'm the type that forgets to take my own medicine on time, but somehow I always remember hers! I'm glad she likes it, otherwise I'd feel utterly useless.

Very reassuring, thanks! <3 All I can do is sit tight and hope she'll be fine. And yes, after she recovers, I'll have to try to tame her further so that it's easier on her if she ever needs more medical intervention in future.

Our robo never was very tame - they are so fast and nervy. Even a tame hamster doesn't like things being done to them! And will wriggle away and hide away etc. You're doing well getting the meds into her!

I have no idea how the vet scruffed her so easily on the first try! The oral meds aren't hard, she'd drink the entire bottle if I let her. Thanks for the reassurance, now I'm quite happy just looking at her pinkish wounds (hoping it means that she's 90% on the mend).

And thanks for all the suggestions everyone. They didn't work very well for me in this instance but are certainly very very useful in future possible scenarios, such as cases where she doesn't like her oral medicines etc, and the information/ advice in this thread is absolutely something I appreciate learning about.

My Robo's wounds on her back look fine, mostly pinkish.

I'm concerned about this pink bulging growth on the bottom part below her belly though, I've been noticing it since she was injured and I thought it was part of the injury, but it still looks very prominent and pink even now. It looks like she's carrying around an extra lump of flesh with her.

My other uninjured Robo has completely white fur on her underside, and her bottom part certainly doesn't bulge. She has a sleek "hamster" figure.

Could the one that has been injured actually be a male hamster? I am not familiar enough with them to tell their genders. Please look at the photo - is "she" actually a "he" (and those are, accordingly his male parts), or is that pink bulging mass something else to be concerned about?

Edit: I wouldn't mind either gender though it would feel weird if I had to change my mindset from her to him. I am more concerned about whether it's a medical condition that needs fixing.

I have never had a robo but I’ve had a lot of male syrians and those look like male hamster balls to me!

Yeah! It looks like a random bulge of extra growth around there, like my Robo is carrying around an extraneous lump of flesh in addition to his/ her "typical sleek frame". I got worried so I googled and it does seem like male hamster balls, but the photos are mostly of Syrians. Hence I posed this question here, hoping people familiar with Roborovski sexing can help.

Funny thing is I have never noticed this prior to his/her injury (to be fair I haven't had him/ her very long). I'm hoping the pet shop just sexed him wrongly and I just have a ballsy hamster on my hands, and the growth is not because of any actual medical complications.

Pet shops improperly sexing animals never surprises me, especially with the smaller species like robos(I would be concerned with male Chinese hamsters though, as they're pretty obvious)! Many pet shops can't even properly sex a guinea pig, and even those in pet shops aren't exactly small. I've even heard of improperly sexed rabbits.
