Exclamation Is it pyometra?

Hi, first of all I'm definitely heading to a vet on Saturday to get my hamster checked either way but I'd like to ask for your opinion on this matter as well.

Yesterday, I've noticed that there was bright red liquid staining the fur around my 8 month old Syrian hamster's vulva. I think it was blood. I wiped it off gently but couldn't see any visible woulds and beside that stain it seemed like she wasn't bleeding anymore.

I checked her vulva again this morning and it's clean as usual.

After a bit of research, I discovered that the reason for her bleeding could be pyometra so I made the necessary calls to find a vet for her.

She's still fairly active (though I've noticed that she's spending a lot of time just sitting on top of her hides nowadays) and her drinking and eating is like normal. She doesn't look bloated/pregnant either. She also seems to groom a lot.

Would there be another reason for the blood/liquid? Maybe she might've scratched herself while grooming? I also remember reading a post somewhere where someone thought their hamster was peeing blood but it was just the red colouring from the red whimzee they gave it.

Default Re: Is it pyometra?

Hi, as you are already planning on doing it is best to get your hamster checked out asap by a vet. It could be pyometra but it could also be a few other things, such as a urinary tract infection etc. Either way goodluck in sorting your hamsters health out.
