Abscess draining aftercare
Ray the tiny rescue Robo went into the vets today so she could check the large lumps he has on his head. She did manage to drain one large abscess to make him more comfortable but unfortunately the other one she says looks like a mass.
He uses his sand bath quite a lot but I have taken this out of his cage. Is this the right thing to do because at the moment he has an open wound on his head?
And he just keep scratching it which is worrying me. Any other after op tips would be amazing please.

Re: Abscess draining aftercare
I took Lunas sand bath out when she had an open wound from injection burn and didn't put it back until she was all healed. Also for 24 hours after she had been put under for tests I had to keep her in a cage with nothing to climb and keep the wheel out. I can only presume this was in case she was still a bit doozy and hurt herself. It was easier for me to keep her in the cage that she goes to the vets in rather than remove everything from her normal cage. This also made it easier to check that she was weeing and pooing just fine. I know you were so worried so glad you finally got some answers for Ray, sorry 1 side turned out to be a mass.

Re: Abscess draining aftercare
He went straight in his wheel and has now fallen asleep in it!!!! He has been using the wheel to sleep in since the heat wave started but I have put soft bedding all around it so he can't hurt himself.
Thanks for confirming about the sand, he loves his sand bath so feel a bit sorry for the little chap.
What a day, been crying on and off all day so treating myself to some chocolate and Ray has had some cucumber and banana.
Hope you and Luna are OK.
