Question Is something wrong with my hammy?

Hi! So I have a little winter white hamster who is about 1 years old and a few months ago we put him in a new cage which has a shelf in the back (it's the Test Tube by ErinsAnimals)
And recently I noticed that he peed a lot all over the shelf which I found strange since hamsters usually pee in a certain place or a corner. We took him to a vet and it turned out that his scent gland was infeted. So the next two weeks we occasionally applied betadine on it as the vet suggested. And since I thought the infection was caused by him dragging his tummy in the pee, I washed the shelf with water and a little bit of vinegar and for a while he stopped peeing there. But a few days ago I took him back to the vet again and we noticed that he chewed off some of his fur above his scent gland. The vet said that it might be just because of the betadine but it also might be some kind of fungal infection. So now I'm just waiting for the fur to grow back but today I noticed that he peed on the shelf again overnight. And it's a lot. Sooo I don't really know what to think at this point, it seems like there's a lot going on with him and I'm really confused worried. If you guys have some ideas about what might be the problem please help.

Sorry if it's a lot of text it's my first time posting here and I'm also lowkey freaking out about him atm.

Hello.

Our one hamster has a shelf that he urinates on sometimes too. I've found that, just like people, some hamsters always go to the toilet in the same place while others are more random and messy in their toilet habits.

I don't think that the urinating on the shelf in itself is a sign of anything being wrong.

Blocked scent glands are common with male Russian dwarfs. If topical antibiotics aren’t working then he may need an oral antibiotic prescribing as well, baytril usually works well. Gently washing the area with a saline solition to clean away any crustiness helps a lot too.

As for the shelf peeing, its inconvenient but not a sign of anything being wrong. Do you have a sand bath in his cage? Russians usually prefer to toilet in sand baths if theres one available. I wouldnt apply any more vinigar to the shelf though as such a strong scent can upset their noses
