Soaked hamster
Hi!
My syrian is approximately 2 months now, i use chipsi bedding and i made the change around 10 days ago because my old one was a chinese brand called rose and i wasn't sure what wood it was.
My hamsters grown quite a bit and hes a long hair so his hair is looking quite scraggly.
Lately hes begun grooming for a good solid 45mins to 1h after wakimg up and emerges looking all wet. He eats normally plays fine is energetic. His poop is normal and dry.
He just grooms himself for so long until his fur is wet
We're going to see a vet on monday first thing. As shes out og town rn until then
Please help, is this normal
Has ur hamster done this.

Re: Soaked hamster
It is normal for them to groom quite a bit but I've never seen any of mine look wet afterwards. They can overgroom through stress but it is possible his skin is uncomfortable? He might be having a reaction so I think a vet visit is smart. Chipsi as far as I'm aware are all softwood beddings which can cause respiratory issues as well. It would be better to use a paper based bedding or a safe wood like Aspen.
Has he got a sandbath? They can give themselves a "dry bath" that way and might help the condition of his coat.

I have ordered a sandbath for him,
I was also wondering about his bedding he seemed more comfortable with the random Chinese company bedding.
The vet said maybe hes developing a bad habit but she said she'd need to check him out first
Hope hes ok
