i have to keep her in hamster prison tonight - (it's what i call the hideous small cage she used to live in before i adopted her) tomorrow she is allowed back in her normal cage with her wheel and the rest of her stuff to clamber over. She has just woken up and is busy cleaning herself.
The vets said they wish everyone was like me, I packed Luna up with her food and water bottle, chopped cucumber, toilet roll bordeom breaker and her bed/house (so she wasn't too stressed and had familiar things/scents #proud hamster mummy moment . My family and friends are laughing at me, saying it's like sending a kid off on a school trip

Re: Hamster bleeding
So glad that you have a diagnosis for Luna's condition thats treatable. You really are doing everything you possibly can for her.
Something else. What kind of camera do you use? I'd love to know what Henry gets up to at night and want to get a pet camera but don't know which one. He sits in his coconut and waits till i've gone to bed and then comes out to play.

Thanks Ria. I use an iegeek camera - it's great - films in infrared at night.
I believe mine is an older version but if you look on amazon they sell more modern versions and they are around £30.
I highly recommend getting one because a.) it's really cool to see what your hamster gets up to at night when you aren't around and b.) really handy if your hamster ever gets ill as you can see how active they actually are.

Re: Hamster bleeding
Luna seems fine, the best thing I did was keeping her in the small prison cage as I could see really easily that she had pee'd and poop'd. She is now back in her proper home. I think we have a winner with the honey on the end of the syringe, easy peasy. Am I speaking too soon We shall see tonight.
So looks like the hedgehogs are going to get the dog food!

Just thought I would give you an update:The last 2 nights Luna is totally back to her lunatic ways, zoom, zoom, zoom all over the conservatory and all over me, burrowing in amongst all my yoga blankets, she hasn't been like this for ages. It's so lovely to see. I love it when she won't leave me alone. she has just climbed up my back as i typed this

Aww, thanks for the update, and I'm totally delighted to hear that she seems to be doing great. Yeah, I totally get you being happy that she won't leave you alone, it's like some people complain about their hamster's wheel making noise in the night (and I don't blame them, this is just a personal thing and some people really are light sleepers so it can be disruptive to them), but for me, I'm most relaxed when I hear her on her wheel, otherwise I'd get up a few times in the middle of the night to check if she's fine or if her wheel is working, etc.
I'm really really glad for you. I hope she keeps bugging you (endearingly) and that you're stuck with her for a long long time of bliss. I think she regained her energy and she really missed bonding with you, so now she's making up for it.

Re: Hamster bleeding
It sounds like the antibiotics are working! Glad the honey is doing the trick. Lol at the hammy school trip. When I took Nugget (nervy Robo who doesn't like being handled) - I actually took his small taming bin and toys and his snooze cube to lift him in and out in! Lifted him into the playbin in it (it's fairly low sided so he could snack and relax while the vet peered at him. It really made it less stressful for him. So yes - pack your hammy bags before going to the vets!

Re: Hamster bleeding
Update. I finally got Luna to take the medicine without a syringe. babyfood, water, medicine and a dab of honey in a bowl.. then last night i removed the honey and she still ate it. this is such a relief as so much more stress free than with a syringe. why she wouldn't do this at the start I do not know. She is quite a chunky girl now, but hopefully if i can remove the honey she might lose a bit.

Re: Hamster bleeding
Well done! So happy she is taking the medicine. One doesn’t want a struggle if it’s daily and for the rest of her life. So happy! Yay!
